The stunning sarcophagus, which measures 9.5 feet long, is believed to have once belonged to an ancient priest named Ankhenmaat and dates back to the Late Dynastic Period, which lasted from 664 BCE until 332 BCE. The new year kicked off with the long-awaited repatriation of an ancient wooden sarcophagus that was looted from the country nearly 15 years ago from Abu Sir Necropolis, north of Cairo, and smuggled to the United States via Germany.
